Another Miami Banker Dead in Apparent Suicide

Sergio Pino, a former US Century Bank executive, was found dead in his home on Isla Dorada Boulevard in Coral Gables.

According to the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner's Office, Pino died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was 54 years old.

Pino was one of the central figures in the US Century Bank scandal. The bank collapsed in 2023, costing depositors billions of dollars. Pino was accused of fraud and money laundering, but he was never charged with a crime.

In November 2023, Pino was deposed in his divorce case. During the deposition, he was questioned about his finances. One financial statement cited during the deposition put his net worth at $8 million.

Pino's death is the latest in a string of suicides by Miami bankers. In recent years, several other former US Century Bank executives have also taken their own lives.
