Man Arrested After Crashing Stolen Car Into Canton Ice Cream Shop

Suspect Fled Scene, Was Apprehended By Police

Canton, Ohio -

The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) has arrested a man after he crashed a stolen car into a Canton ice cream shop.

According to OSHP, the incident occurred on Sunday, July 23, at approximately 8:30 p.m. The suspect, identified as 25-year-old John Smith, was driving a stolen 2019 Honda Accord when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the front of Baskin-Robbins, located at 4567 Tuscarawas Street W.

Smith fled the scene on foot but was apprehended by police a short time later. He was charged with receiving stolen property, failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, and leaving the scene of an accident. Smith is currently being held in the Stark County Jail.

The crash caused extensive damage to the ice cream shop, which was closed at the time of the incident. No injuries were reported.
